Nongsawlia Presbyterian Church


The First Presbyterian Church was first set up in Lower Cherrapunjee at Nongsawlia, in the year 1848 and it was reconstructed after the earthquake in 1898. It was the first Christian church in the north east India. Khasis the natives of Sohra got so much influenced by Welsh culture that there dressing style and even the hymns sung in the churches have Welsh tune. The church looks grand due to its magnificent structure with a beautiful bell tower.

Nongsawlia Presbyterian Church is about 55 kilometers away from state capital, Shillong.
