Traditional dance Shad Suk Mynsiem


Shad Suk Mynsiem also known as Weiking Dance is a rich traditional dance of the Khasis that happens annually during the month of April. 




Both men and women participate in this dance. It is a magnificent sight as one witnesses silver-clad men in their rich attire and women in their rich, silk garments wrapped with heavy gold, silver and coral ornaments dance to the tunes of the music It is specially a festival of dance held in spring and is also known as ‘Dance of happy hearts’.

It is a three-day festival and is also celebrated by the Garo and Jaintia tribes of Meghalaya. Previously it was also known as ‘Shad Phur’. It is generally the celebration of agricultural harvesting and starting of implantation of seeds.
